About Chester Park in Duluth Minnesota
Chester Park is a neighborhood in Duluth MN. Chester Park sits between Kenwood, East Hillside, Endion, Hunter’s Park, and Congdon Park neighborhoods in Duluth. Chester Park is uniquely situated partly on the Duluth Hill and above the hillside.
The Chester Park neighborhood offers close access to the Kenwood retail area, Hartley Park, Hawk Ridge, Downtown Duluth and the Lakewalk. The main roads in Chester Park are Woodland Avenue, East 8th Street, N 19th Avenue East, West College Street, and North 21st Avenue East.
What is in Chester Park?
Chester Park has parks and business within the community without having to leave the area. Some of the places in Chester Park are the Mount Royal business area, Chester Park, and University of Minnesota Duluth.
The Mount Royal Business area refers to Pizza Hut along Woodland Avenue down to the intersection by Mount Royal Dental. There has been some development in the area adding restaurants, some retail, services, and apartments that didn’t even exist when I was going to college here. Some of the newer developments are from Tavern on the Hill restaurant to the Pizza Hut building. Tavern on the Hill is one of my favorite restaurants to visit in the area. There are one of the few places with outside patio seating above the Duluth Hill.
Chester Parks primary park area that includes Chester Bowl is one of the most visited parks in the city of Duluth. The park has multiple sections that offer different activities. Chester Park runs along Chester Creek with multiple parking areas. Initially you will enter the park and have close access to Chester Creek Trail that is about a 2.5 mile loop. It has varied terrain and elevation throughout the hike and has great views of the surrounding scenery with Chester Creek running along part of the trail. The larger parking lot sits next to the playground and field area. There is a trail system that will bring you to Chester Bowl and the Chalet. You can ski and snowboard on the Chester Bowl hill. You can rent out the Chalet and they also offer equipment rentals. There are many activities and programs run in Chester Bowl. The Chester Bowl Fall Fest is a main event in the Duluth MN area. There are different arts, crafts, food, and music acts at the outdoor event.
University of Minnesota Duluth is in Chester Park neighborhood. Most of the area between West St. Marie Street and West College Street are university buildings. There are some residential homes located in the corner towards Woodland Avenue. The College of Saint Scholastica is nearby as well. You will see more students around because of the proximity of both colleges.

What is close to Chester Park?
Chester Park is centrally located to most of the East End of Duluth Minnesota. It is about 10 minutes to the Miller Hill Mall area. The Miller Hill Mall area is where most of our larger retail businesses have built up. This includes businesses like the Miller Hill Mall, Target, Costco, BestBuy, and many more.   The Kenwood retail area is within about 5 minutes of Chester Park. Kenwood will offer additional access to a larger grocery store, coffee shop, restaurants, and small businesses. It is about 10 minutes to Hartley Park or Hawk Ridge from Chester Park. These are just a few places to provide an idea of drive time to some of the main areas of Duluth.
The location of Chester Park and the main roads that go directly to the surrounding areas allow ease of driving around. Not all the roads allow for easy on-street parking in parts of Chester Park. The way it was built up allowed for additional housing but smaller lots and streets in those spots. You will find different housing styles because of how Chester Park is setup on the Duluth Hillside and above it. One of the property setups will be with the house in the front by the main road but the garage entrance in the back with alley access. That might mean the only off-street parking is in the garage if there isn’t a driveway or room next to the garage. There are some homes with bigger lots in Chester Park. Some of them will be closer to Chester Park Drive with quicker access to Chester Park and Chester Bowl.
What is the School District in Chester Park?
