About Lakeside - Lester Park in Duluth Minnesota
Lakeside – Lester Park is a neighborhood in Duluth MN. The neighborhood sits between Morley Heights, Congdon, North Shore, and Lakewood Township areas of Duluth. As of 2020 there were about 3,963 housing units in Lakeside – Lester Park according to Minnesota Compass.
Lakeside sits on the outskirts of Duluth, MN. Some of the primary connecting roads of the neighborhood are Glenwood Street, East Superior Street, and London Road. There was some major road construction completed this year at the intersection of Glenwood and Snively just before you enter/exit the Lakeside neighborhood. The city added a roundabout at this intersection by Lakeside to allow for better traffic flow. This is towards the top of the Duluth Hill. As you get past the first part of Glenwood Street down into the Lakeside neighborhood you will notice the slope of the hill lessens.
What is in Lakeside?
The Lakeside neighborhood has many places you can visit in the immediate area and close by. Some of the places to visit are Hawk Ridge, Lester Park, Seven Bridges Rd, Brighton Beach, Duluth Lakewalk, and Northland Country Club.Â
Northland Country Club can be found off E Superior Street on one end of Lakeside. This is another one of Duluth’s premier golf courses. They offer a variety of activities including golf, tournaments, leagues, pool, and tennis. They also have dining available and host a variety of events as well. Â
Hawk Ridge in Duluth MN is an amazing overlook in Lakeside on E Skyline Parkway. Hawk Ridge is known as one of the main sites for hawk migration. There is a lot of bird research and programs they provide from this location. This is one of the main sites to look across the Lakeside-Lester Park neighborhood and Lake Superior. As you continue down E Skyline Parkway towards Seven Bridges Road, you will see multiple trail points that you can access that offer additional views of the area including Lake Superior.
The Seven Bridges Road is a unique roadway here in Duluth Minnesota. You will find many people use this road for hiking and biking as well. It runs along Amity Creek. There are different parking spots near trail points and access to Amity Creek. Part of this road is closed off during the winter months. One side of Lester Park is accessed towards the end of Seven Bridges Road.  Â
The main parking to access Lester Park Trails and Playground is off Lester River Road. The main playground area is between Amity Creek and Lester River. There are some great views and multiple trails to use. I enjoy visiting this area on a nice summer day.
The Duluth Lakewalk is another main feature of the entire city. The Lakewalk ends in the Lakeside neighborhood by Brighton Beach. It runs about 8 miles long. Parts of the trail system are going to run along Lake Superior and the railway that runs train tours for part of the year. You can take the Lakewalk all the way down to Canal Park / Bayfront. One of the main routes next to Lake Superior that I enjoy taking is the section from the Rose Garden to Canal Park. Typically, there will be some train tours running and different access points down to Lake Superior. There is a section of stairs to take up to the Portland Malt Shoppe as well.Â
Brighton Beach is just past the Lakeside neighborhood. It is part of the start of the North Shore Scenic Drive. You can stop off on Brighton Beach at different parking areas. You can have direct access to Lake Superior here.Â
There are some small retail shops and restaurants in Lakeside. You will have a smaller SuperOne grocery story in the area. I recommend checking out Amity Coffee and New London Café if anyone is looking for a coffee shop. Sammy’s Pizza & Deli is a great spot to visit or order from as well. Lake Superior Brewing is a fun spot if you are looking for one of our local breweries. This way you have some options in the neighborhood without having to leave for everything.

What is close to Lakeside?
Lakeside is about a 10-15 minute drive to the Canal Park area. The main routes are at the bottom of the Duluth Hill. It is an easy route to get into the Downtown Duluth area or onto the freeway. If you are trying to head to the main retail area around the Miller Hill Mall it will be about a 20-25 minute drive. Lakeside is near the North Shore Scenic Route in Duluth. There will be more through traffic on the main roads because it has the main connecting routes to the scenic route from other areas of Duluth.
The North Shore Scenic Drive from Duluth to Two Harbors is one of my favorite places to visit. There are homes and vacation rentals on part of the scenic route. The North Shore Scenic Dr will be between many properties and Lake Superior. However, some properties will be on the cliffside of Lake Superior. The scenic route will have multiple stopping points with a view or access to Lake Superior. Some of the stopping points are McQuade Small Craft Harbor and the French River Wayside. There are additional retail shops and restaurants along the way as well.  Â
You will find a variety of homes in the Lakeside neighborhood. The elevation of the area offers different views for some homes as well. You might be able to find property looking up towards the cliffside of the Duluth Hill. There are homes with views out to Lake Superior and along the Duluth Lakewalk as well.Â
