About Woodland in Duluth Minnesota
Woodland is a neighborhood in Duluth MN. Woodland sits between Morley Heights, Hunter’s Park, Kenwood, and City of Rice Lake. As of 2020 there were about 3,963 housing units in Woodland according to Minnesota Compass.Â
Woodland sits on the outskirts of Duluth MN. This can be a great spot if you are looking to be in the City of Duluth MN but not far from some parks and the rural area of Duluth. The main connecting roads around the neighborhood are Woodland Ave, Calvary Rd, and Martin Rd. Woodland Ave is the main road connecting you to the heart of Duluth MN and will be the fastest route to the Mount Royal area.
What is in Woodland?
The Woodland neighborhood has many places to visit without having to leave the area. Some things to do right in Woodland would be to visit Ridgeview Country Club, Hartley Park, or Woodland Community Recreation Center.
Ridgeview Country Club can be found on the far side of the Woodland neighborhood. This is one of our premier golf courses in Duluth MN. They offer golf leagues and tournaments as well. You can also rent out space there for events.Â
The Woodland Community Recreation Center offers a variety of space for outdoor and indoor activities. They have a large space for parking. You will find tennis/pickleball courts, a playground, and field space outside. There is the space for hockey and the main community center for indoor activities and clubs.Â
One of Duluth Minnesota’s premier parks is Hartley Park. The main park area is off Woodland Ave where you will find additional parking and the Hartley Nature Center. You will also find additional trailheads in Woodland and other neighborhoods into Hartley Park.Â
Hartley Park has over 600 acres with 10 miles of trails to use. You can even snowshoe or cross-country ski here in winter. Not every trail is heavily maintained but you will find many different routes you can use in the park. Some of the Superior Hiking Trail goes through this area as well. The Hartley Nature Center is here as well, and they just built an addition. The Hartley Nature Center is used for equipment rentals, preschool, and many other programs/events.Â
There are other small businesses in Woodland. Some of the main retail and restaurants are the Woodland Marketplace Foods, Zen House, Sammy’s Pizza, Woodland Short Stop, Denny’s Ace Hardware, Woodland Liquor, and Denny’s Lawn and Garden. There are other small retail shops in the area as well. One of the closest restaurants just outside of the neighborhood is The Other Place Bar and Grill.

What is close to Woodland?
Woodland is close to other areas of interest. You will be able to continue using the Superior Hiking Trail well passed the neighborhood. The Superior Hiking Trail has more than 300 miles of usable trails that continue up towards the Canadian border. The Duluth area has about 43 miles of the trail system running through it. The trails will have their own unique look in every season!
It doesn’t take long to drive to some other areas of Duluth either. You will be able to get to the Hawk Ridge area in about 10 minutes. This is a great area for bird migration and also provides some great hiking and views of Lake Superior here in Duluth. The Hawk Ridge area is on East Skyline Parkway that connects with Seven Bridges Road. This is a great route whether you are driving or hiking around. There are different trail systems and creeks along the way. Towards the bottom you will have access to the Lester Park area. This road system surrounds the Lakeside neighborhood in Duluth MN.Â
You can drive to the North Shore Scenic Route in Duluth from Woodland in about 20 minutes. This is our main scenic route up the North Shore that runs along Lake Superior. It has amazing views year-round of Lake Superior. There are multiple stopping points as well.
There are additional retail and shopping options not far outside of the Woodland neighborhood. You can get to the Mount Royal Area and Kenwood in 5-10 minutes depending on where you are in Woodland. The Miller Hill Mall area is about 20 minutes from Woodland. You can take a few different routes to get there.Â
Canal Park in Duluth is about 20 minutes from Woodland as well. That is one of the main visiting areas in the entire city. You will find many retail and restaurant options down there. It is a great place to experience Lake Superior. The Aerial Lift Bridge is down there. Many people will watch the boats going through the canal when the Aerial Lift Bridge goes up. The Lakewalk starts down the Canal Park/Bayfront area and goes down to Brighton Beach. The Lakewalk goes for about 8 miles down to Brighton Beach. I enjoy walking from Canal Park to Leif Erickson Park. This area sees more traffic during Summer and Fall. That is also when we have more events in the area. You will need to cross the Aerial Lift Bridge to get to Park Point. You will have access to the sand beach area along Lake Superior in the Park Point area!Â
You will find a variety of different homes in the Woodland neighborhood. There are going to be homes built in the early 20th century and newer construction. The areas on the outskirts of Woodland may have more yard space. You can also find some homes in a small area of Woodland that will have more than an acre of land.
The Hartley Estates area of Woodland sits next to the Hartley Park area. There is a trail system available right in the development (it’s available for use depending on trail conditions). Some of the homes will sit directly along Hartley Park with an amazing view of the area.
